Drawa Forest Project visited by Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister

The Drawa Forest Project recently received a visit from the Fijian Government who have spoken highly of the impact the project has had for the communities and families across eight mataqali.

Deputy Prime Minister, Honorable Manoa Kamikamica, and his team visited the Drawa Block Forest Communities Cooperative (DBFCC) where they spoke of commitments from the Fiji Government to support environmental conservation and carbon initiatives such as the Drawa project, including by applying a tax exemption to carbon credit income.

“I have heard about the Drawa Block Forest Community Cooperative and this is my first time here. It is a long journey to reach your village and seeing you here is evidence of your hard work, your vision and your perseverance,” he said.

“We have been looking for successful cooperative models and DBFCC has laid the challenge for all other communities around Fiji. Do not stop here, draw up a plan and venture into other types of tourism,” he advised.

The Drawa Forest Project is a partnership between the Drawa Block Forest Community Cooperative, Nakau and Live & Learn Fiji.
