Help Stop Global Warming. Reduce Global Inequality Too.

You can help stop global warming by advocating for clean energy solutions, by taking steps to reduce your carbon emissions, and by utilizing the tool of carbon offsets to pay others for removing the carbon pollution which you are unable to eliminate.

Carbon Offsets To Alleviate Poverty (COTAP) fights global warming through certified carbon projects which create life-changing income for the world’s poorest people. When you address your carbon footprint with COTAP, you are not only doing your part to stop global warming, but you are also reducing global economic inequality.

COTAP specializes in connecting your carbon footprint with forestry projects in least-developed countries which create income for farmers who live on less than $2 per day. All projects are certified by Plan Vivo, the longest-standing forestry carbon standard in the world, and the only standard which requires projects have detailed plans for direct carbon revenue sharing with smallholder farmer communities.

Stop global warming by doing your part: Reducing & Offsetting

Stopping global warming is a challenge requiring many simultaneous solutions.  As individuals, each of us can lower our carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions through actions like flying less and improving the energy efficiency of our cars and homes.

For your CO2 footprint which remains, you can do your part to stop global warming by utilizing carbon offsets.  Carbon offsets are an established market-based tool through which you can address your personal CO2 emissions from driving, flying, and home energy use, also known as your carbon footprint. By purchasing carbon offsets, you are supporting projects which counteract the CO2 emissions which you haven’t yet been able to eliminate.

Life-changing income for the world’s poorest people

COTAP pools contributions from individuals and organizations and supports projects which compensate farmers for planting and maintaining trees on under-utilized portions of their land.  Plantings and tree growth are monitored and verified by third parties, and farmer payments are front-loaded and performance-based, paid over a period of 7 to 10 years for plantings which will sequester CO2 over 25 or more years.

Flexibility, Affordability, and Tax-deductibility!

Quick and easy offset levels are at right, and transactions made through this page are evenly allocated to COTAP’s four projects in Nicaragua, Mozambique, Uganda, and Malawi. Transactions are 100% tax-deductible for U.S. residents.

If you prefer, you may completely customize your transaction via “Offsetting Options” in our menu above. There, you can offset as little as 1 tonne of CO2 or as many tonnes as you like, as well as have complete control over how much of your transaction is distributed to each of our 4 projects.
