Go carbon neutral and fight global poverty

With Carbon Offsets To Alleviate Poverty (COTAP) you can go carbon neutral and fight poverty by connecting your carbon footprint with certified projects which create life-changing income for smallholder farmers who live on less than $2 per day.

Carbon neutrality means both reducing emissions and offsetting

In going carbon neutral, it’s important to make efforts to reduce your carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions while also utilizing the market-based tool of carbon offsets to address what remains. Carbon offsets support projects which counteract the CO2 emissions which you haven’t yet been able to eliminate yourself. By both reducing your carbon footprint and utilizing carbon offsets, you can become carbon neutral and thus address your personal contribution to global warming. What makes COTAP very unique is that when you offset through us, you are also reducing global poverty.

How it Works

COTAP pools carbon offset transactions from individuals and organizations and supports projects which compensate farmers for planting and maintaining trees on under-utilized portions of their land.  Plantings and tree growth are monitored and verified by third parties, and farmer payments are front-loaded and performance-based, paid over a period of 7 to 10 years for plantings which will sequester CO2 over 25 or more years.

Flexibility, Affordability, and Tax-deductibility

Choose from the quick and easy offsetting levels are at right, or use “Offsetting Options” in our menu above to completely customize your number of tonnes of CO2 and what portion of your transaction goes to each of our projects. COTAP is a 501(c)3 non-profit, so transactions are 100% tax-deductible for U.S. residents.
